With our engineers and three PhDs, our software suite is the result of nearly 20 years of combined R&D.

The tools integrated in our solution (static analysis, dynamic analysis, compilation) and the code optimization techniques in C/C++ that we provide in our solution have been their daily routine for years.

Justine BONNOT – CEO & R&D Director

Engineer in electronics and industrial computing (INSA Rennes) and PhD in signal processing (IETR). As a specialist in approximate computing (fixed-point data arithmetic, polynomial approximations), she designed WedoLow’s hyper-optimization tool based on the research work and technological maturation she conducted. While running the company, she is also in charge of the R&D team, where she manages the strategy for both the “Embedded” and “Hosted” parts. Her interest in these subjects regularly leads her to dive into scientific publications and to provide expert advice to some of our clients.

Benjamin BARROIS – Software architect

After graduating in electronics and embedded systems software, he completed a PhD in low-power computer arithmetic. His technical expertise is mainly in approximate arithmetic (including fixed-point) and its hardware implementation. He then co-created a company making professional software for PCBA companies that still exists today, before becoming CTO in a company making consent management software. In charge of the development of our beLow solution, he acts as an interface with the R&D team.

Julien HEULOT – R&D engineer

Engineer in electrical and computer engineering, Doctor in Signal and Image Processing (INSA Rennes), Julien Heulot has more than 10 years of research experience in signal processing algorithm design and optimization for embedded targets, from FPGA to heterogeneous multi-core platforms. For example, he worked on the design of a real-time embedded OS based on a dataflow model as part of his doctoral thesis, on the optimization of SIMD code for a HEVC video decoder, and on the design of an advanced research-oriented oximeter as part of his work and collaborations with companies. At WedoLow, he oversees the R&D integrated in our solution, supervises the other engineers and interns of the team, and works alongside customers in the context of the services we provide on demand.

Ongoing R&D

R&D is in our DNA. We monitor new processors and new scientific papers on a daily basis. We collaborate with laboratories specialized in our fields and can count on the expertise of two renowned researchers on our advisory board, Daniel MÉNARD and Olivier SENTIEYS (discover them below).

We are committed to offering our customers a solution that is both scientifically rigorous and regularly enhanced with new features. Our exchanges with our customers contribute to our daily R&D roadmap. The same goes for the research projects we carry out internally.

Daniel Ménard holds a PhD in signal processing and telecommunications from the University of Rennes (2002). He has 20 years of expertise in the design and implementation of image and signal processing systems. Author of more than 100 scientific papers in international journals and conferences, his research interests include low-power video codecs, approximate computation, and power consumption. He is a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at INSA Rennes and a member of the IETR laboratory. He is also an elected member of the ASPS technical committee of the IEEE Signal Processing Society.

Olivier Sentieys is a professor at the University of Rennes and holds the Inria research chair on energy-efficient computer systems. He leads the Taran team, which is shared by Inria (French research institute dedicated to computer sciences) and the IRISA laboratory. His research interests include computer architectures, computer arithmetic, embedded systems, and signal processing, with a focus on system-level design, energy-efficient hardware acceleration (especially for machine learning and data mining), approximate computation (reduced precision arithmetic, numerical precision analysis) and fault tolerance.

Focus on Quentin MILOT, PhD student

Quentin is a PhD student at IETR in the VAADER team (Video Analysis and Architecture Design for Embedded Resources) in collaboration with WedoLow.
He introduces us to his subject and his objectives:
“With the growth of artificial intelligence and more specifically deep learning, the issue of the energy sustainability of these methods is increasingly put forward. One of the levers raised is the reduction of resources allocated to data. This would reduce the energy and hardware costs required to run the algorithms.
However, this method can reduce the quality and accuracy of the algorithm. It is therefore necessary to be able to estimate each modification in terms of gain and loss.
My thesis is based on the characterization of different algorithms and methodologies to estimate the impact of quantization on data. This characterization goes through the exploration of various methods of data representation, preferential sampling in order to reduce the time needed for a rigorous estimation of the quality degradation or optimization methods taking into account all the factors.”
